Raise your hand if you picked up crochet while in lockdown. You’re not alone. There’s been a massive boom in new crocheters. Welcome to the club 😉. It’s not surprising, not only is crochet quick, easy and budget-friendly to pick up, but it offers some much needed escapism during tricky times. If you started crocheting during lockdown, you’ve probably mastered the basic stitches now and you’re wondering…what next? It can be tricky choosing your first pattern or two. Let me help you. These handpicked crochet projects are perfect for beginners. I’ve specifically chosen them because they use basic stitches that you know, but also add in some new tricks and techniques to help you grow your knowledge. Ready? Let’s get started with these hooking awesome beginner friendly crochet projects.

Granny Squares are a hugely popular beginner-friendly pattern, with lots of people first picking up the hook to tackle this iconic square. And, if you can do a granny square…you can do a granny stripe! Why not put those hooking skills to the test and make this fun little Crochet Beanie pattern?

While we’re on the subject of hats, Jess from Make & Do Crew has a fantastically quick and simple beanie that takes under 2 hours to make. Quick projects are ideal for beginners as you get the lovely serotonin boost of finishing a project almost immediately!

I know, Spring isn’t the IDEAL time to make woolly hats. But, they’re great practice for beginners, and not only that if you build up a store, you’ll be all set for Christmas! Or, you could create a stash of hats to hand out to the homeless for Winter. Then you get the double reward of getting better at crochet and helping out those who need it.

Only have a few moments to spare, but want to learn the basic stitches? Try these!

If you like cute things, feast your eyes on these absolutely adorable Itty Bitty Crochet Kitty dolls from Caitie at Thoresby Cottage. Aren’t they just so sweet and squishable? Imagine making a whole herd of cats! So cute and FAR MORE manageable that a real life herd of cats! Hehe.

Sticking with small and sweet things…these crochet roses are just the QUICKEST project ever and make the perfect embellishments for other crochet projects. Or just a pretty prop for your crochet photoshoots!

And if you’re a floral fan, you going to love this simple succulent cosy. It’s the perfect way to jazz up a boring plant pot and give your plant baby the showstopping display it deserves!

I have another couple of SUPER SPEEDY beginner friendly crochet patterns for you. They’re brilliant for helping you to improve your gauge, and you also end up with pretty things you’ve made. What could be better?

The Valentines Heart Coaster is a cute little crochet coaster that is definitely NOT just for Valentine’s Day. These little hearts are just too pretty to put away!

A crochet washcloth is also a brilliant way to develop your skills because you can use it as a swatch to practice new stitches. Not only do you build your crochet knowledge, but you end up with a personalised washcloth. It’s win-win!
