I’m so excited to share this pattern with you. The 12 Point Star Blanket is one of my most popular videos and I love seeing your blankets on social media. So, I thought it was time to bring the written version of the pattern to my blog. The beginner friendly blanket is a simple project just using basic stitches and it’s easy to size up or down depending on the size of blanket you want to make. This stellar make is out of this world.
If you’ve never worked from a written pattern before, but you’re familiar with my 12 Point Star video this is a great place to boost your knowledge and learn the structure and style of a written pattern.

December 16, 2020 at 4:30 amGood day. I’m looking forward to start with this blanket. Sorry, stupid question (I’m a beginner…) how many stitches do you work in the magic circle for this pattern? Thanks!!
BellaCocoTeam
December 19, 2020 at 5:07 pmHi Tania, Not a stupid question at all You should begin by chaining three and then working eleven treble crochets into the circle, which will give you twelve stitches altogether including the starting chain.

February 20, 2021 at 7:51 amSorry I am new to crochet but eager to learn. What does * mean?
BellaCocoTeam
February 20, 2021 at 9:40 pmHi Lucy normally when a pattern has * it means that you repeat from * to *, so basically you repeat whatever it says in between these. I hope this makes sense 🙂

March 7, 2021 at 11:19 amHow do you join the motifs please?
BellaCocoTeam
March 9, 2021 at 3:39 pmHi Tanya The 12 point star pattern isn’t generally used as motifs; you would normally keep adding rounds until the star is blanket sized

June 19, 2021 at 10:52 amI was wondering why the instructions for treble 2together was given for the 12point star blanket when it’s not actually used in the pattern. Am I missing something?
BellaCocoTeam
June 22, 2021 at 4:09 pmHi Janet, thanks for pointing this out – this appears to be an oversight in the pattern instructions and I have amended it

August 5, 2021 at 1:07 amI know it is meant to be worked until the star is big enough for a blanket but any advice on how to change it into a large granny square? The ombre yarn I’m using does not have enough of one color to get past row 15 without running out in the same row so I am hoping to make a few and join them somehow. Thanks in advance!

January 20, 2022 at 9:07 pmHi! I am wanting to try and make this while changing colors in the middle of the row. It doesn’t seem to be working how I want when I am trying to start the new row with a new color and isn’t making the line as crisp as I would like. Do you have any suggestions or tips?
BellaCocoTeam
January 26, 2022 at 7:23 pmHi Rebecca I’m not sure which method you’re using to change colour, but I have a tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wxMQ-_Cz3s that shows how to change colours at the beginning and middle of a row that should help you

January 22, 2022 at 2:23 pmHi, I’m hoping to make a blanket for a toddler and wondering roughly how many 100g balls of yarn I would need to achieve this. Thanks, Hannah
BellaCocoTeam
January 26, 2022 at 7:23 pmHi Hannah For a small to medium size blanket I would say 300g to 400g of DK yarn, but obviously this will depend on your own personal tension as well as how big you want the blanket to be

February 25, 2022 at 8:13 pmHello!!! Adorable pattern, I am stuck on row 6. Is it possible the first part of the instruction is missing? I am finding I’m starting at the wrong spot and it needs a SS to next st before the Ch 3.
Any advice would be helpful!
Thanks!
BellaCocoTeam
February 26, 2022 at 4:55 pmHI Cali Thank you, I’m glad you like it There is no mistake with the pattern; I would double check that you’re working the final treble of round 5 into the correct place so that you’re ready to begin round 6 at the correct point.

April 3, 2022 at 3:12 pmHi, Can you do the ( tr, ch 2, tr ) every 4th row instead of every 3rd row..??
BellaCocoTeam
April 8, 2022 at 6:14 pmI would recommend doing it every third row as per the pattern, as having too many increase rounds will cause your star to ripple at the edges

April 28, 2022 at 4:38 pmWhat ply or weight is the yarn for the pattern. Eager to get started. Thank you.
BellaCocoTeam
April 30, 2022 at 5:24 pmI used MillaMia Aran 🙂
Cynthia
May 1, 2022 at 4:45 amI guess this is a sport weight yarn which would be rated as 3 ply.
BellaCocoTeam
May 10, 2022 at 1:53 pmHi Cynthia a Sport weight yarn (US) is a 4 ply (UK) if you require a 3 ply its a fingering yarn (US). I hope this helps 🙂

May 30, 2022 at 1:23 pmI must have missed how many skeins I would need for this blanket. Is a #3 weight yarn suitable for this blanket? I have 2 skeins. Thanks for sharing this pattern.
