12 Point Star Blanket

I’m so excited to share this pattern with you. The 12 Point Star Blanket is one of my most popular videos and I love seeing your blankets on social media. So, I thought it was time to bring the written version of the pattern to my blog. The beginner friendly blanket is a simple project just using basic stitches and it’s easy to size up or down depending on the size of blanket you want to make. This stellar make is out of this world.

If you’ve never worked from a written pattern before, but you’re familiar with my 12 Point Star video this is a great place to boost your knowledge and learn the structure and style of a written pattern.

MATERIALS & TOOLS NEEDED

Yarn: Milla Mia Naturally Soft Aran

Hook: 5mm

Scissors

Darning Needle

PATTERN NOTES

This pattern is written in UK terms.

 A foundation is built for the first 6 rounds.  The following 3 rounds will be repeated to desired size.  Beginning ch does count as a st.

ABBREVIATIONS

Chain(s): ch(s): Yarn over, pull through

Magic Circle (See online tutorial)

Stitch(es) (st(s))

Space(s) (sp(s))

Slip Stitch (ss): Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull yarn through stitch and loop on hook

Treble Crochet (tr): Yarn over, insert hook into stitch or space, yarn over, draw up a loop (3 loops on hook), (yarn over, draw through 2 loops) twice.

12 POINT STAR BLANKET PATTERN

Foundation chain: Make a magic circle

Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as a st here and throughout), turn, work 11 tr in magic circle, ss to top of ch-3 to join. Tighten tail of magic circle. (12 tr)

Round 2: Ch 3, tr into same st as join, 2 tr in each st around, ss to top of ch-3 to join. (24 tr)

Round 3: Ch 3, *sk next st, (tr, ch 2, tr) in next st; repeat from * around working only tr, ch 2 into same st as beginning ch-3, ss to top of ch-3 to join. (12 V’s)

Round 4: Ss into first ch-2 sp, ch 3, (tr, ch 2, 2 tr) in same ch-2 sp, (2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr) in each ch-2 sp around, sl st to top of ch-3 to join. (48 tr, 12 ch-2 sps)

Round 5: Ss in each st to next ch-2 sp, ch 3, (tr, ch 2, 2 tr) in same ch-2 sp, *tr in next st, miss next 2 sts, tr in next st, (2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr) in next ch-2 sp; repeat from * around stopping at beginning ch-3, ss to top of ch-3 to join. (72 tr, 12 ch-2 sps)

Round 6: Ch 3, tr in next st, *(2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr) in ch-2 sp, tr in next 2 sts, identify valley sts as last tr from one cluster meeting first tr from next cluster on previous round, miss 2 valley sts, tr in next 2 sts; repeat from * around stopping at ch-3, ss to top of ch-3 to join. (96 tr, 12 ch-2 sps)

Round 7: SS to next st, ch 3, tr in next 2 sts, *(tr, ch 2, tr) in ch-2 sp, tr in each st to valley sts, miss 2 valley sts, tr in each st to next ch-2 sp; repeat from * around joining to top of beginning ch-3 with ss. 

Rounds 8-9: Ss to next st, ch 3, *tr in each st to ch-2 sp, (2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr) in ch-2 sp, tr in each st to valley sts, miss 2 valley sts; repeat from * around joining to top of beginning ch-3 with ss. 

Repeat rounds 7-9 to desired size.
