Let’s face it, being a crocheter in Summer can be TOUGH. There’s no way you want a heavy afghan or hot cardigan on your lap while the sunshine is beating down on you. And though we all LOVE acrylic, it’s not the kindest fibre in the heat. So, this list is celebrating crochet projects for Summer. From lightweight, Summery designs to patterns that use lightweight fibres like linen, cotton and bamboo. Here’s a round-up of five of my favourite crochet projects for Summer.
Looking for a lightweight Summer yarn? Here are some of my favourites:
- Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK
- Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran
- MillaMia Naturally Soft Cotton
- Stylecraft Classique Cotton DK
Let’s start with an obvious one, what could be more summery than a butterfly? Whether you hook these up in soft pastels or vibrant rainbow colours, these cute little critters will add a Summery pop of colour to your home or craft projects.

Also high on the Summer essentials list – ICE CREAM! Much less messy and far cuter than your average 99, these Kawaii Soft Serve Ice Cream Cones by Melissa at Crafty Kitty Crochet are so much fun to make. Imagine the colour possibilities, I can’t wait to hook up a mint choc chip cone!

Toni from TL Yarn Crafts really amps up the heat with the sizzling Rebel Cami. Not only is this design PERFECT for staying cool, it’s hooked up in cotton so you’ll bag the benefits of this naturally cooling fibre too. What could be better? You get to look cool and stay cool!

And…if you’re looking for the ideal accompaniment for the Rebel Cami, or ANY Summer clothing, how about this absolute banger of a bag? The Crocheted Purple Fringe Boho Purse by Rose at LoopinglyMade is so pretty and perfect for adding some festival vibes to your look. Crochella anyone? 😉

Finally, if you’re looking for a quick and fun way to add some Summery vibes to your home, how about the sunshine-drenched Summer Breeze Cushion? This cute crochet cushion uses vibrant colours and an eye-catching Aztec design to really capture the essence of Summer.
