What could be more Summery than a lighthouse? While you might not be able to own an actual lighthouse, why not live out your lighthouse keeper fantasy with this cute little amigurumi lighthouse from guest designer Victoria?
You might remember Victoria from her past design for Bella Coco Crochet, the incredibly cute Door Mouse.

Victoria says, “I wanted to design amigurumi that anyone could make and enjoy. Although this lighthouse would make a lovely toy for a child, it would also be a great décor piece in anyone’s home. Why let the children have all the amigurumi fun? It is also a great project for learning some amigurumi techniques, it’s a fairly simple pattern but I have incorporated lots of elements of amigurumi within it. You will learn how to do invisible decreases (a staple of amigurumi), how to make a sharp corner at the base of your tower, how to work in the front and back loops so that you can create layers of crochet, and how to do some easy embroidery to add that little bit of detail.“

MATERIALS & TOOLS
Yarn: Ricorumi DK (100% cotton) White (001) 37m (1 ball); Red (028) 30m (1 ball); Light Blue (033) 7m (1 ball); Mouse Grey (059) 5m (1 ball); Pastel Yellow (062) 10m (1 ball). You could use any yarn in any weight and any colour, as long as it is all the same weight, and an appropriate size hook, however other yarns may affect the size of the finished lighthouse.
Hooks: 2.5mm
Scissors
Tapestry Needle
Polyester toy stuffing
A small piece of sturdy cardboard
Stitch markers
PATTERN NOTES
Pattern written in UK terms.
Using the materials suggested this pattern makes a lighthouse that is 20cm (8 inches) high.
This pattern uses the amigurumi method, working in continuous spirals (unless stated otherwise). There is a right side and a wrong side, the right side will be on the outside when working in a clockwise direction, and the front loops will be on the outside.
Starting chains do not count as the first stitch unless stated otherwise. When joining a new yarn, always begin working in the same stitch, unless stated otherwise.
You will need to use a stitch marker or scrap of yarn, placed in the last stitch of every round.
You will want to work with a tight tension so that when you stuff the toy the stuffing doesn’t show through the holes in the stitches.
Pattern Skill Level: Advanced beginner
CROCHET TERMS
Magic Ring
Chain (ch): Yarn over, pull through loop.
Double crochet (dc): Insert the hook into the next stitch, yarn over, pull through loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook.
Slip stitch (ss): Insert the hook into the next stitch yarn over pull through loop and pull through loop on hook.
Increase (inc): Work two dc in the same stitch.
Invisible decrease (invdec): In this pattern most decreases are invisible decreases. Put the hook into the front loop of the first stitch, then put the hook into the front loop of the second stitch, yarn over, pull through 2 stitches, yarn over and pull through 2 loops. (Invisible decreases are optional, a regular decrease would work too).
Decrease (dc2tog): Insert hook into the first stitch, yarn over and pull through a loop, insert hook into the second stitch, yarn over and pull through a loop. Yarn over again and pull through all loops on hook.
Back loops: When looking at the top of a row of crochet, usually you would put your crochet hook through 2 strands of yarn, for back loops only put the crochet hook through only the loop furthest away from you.
Front loops: Similar to back loops, but put the hook into the stitch closest to you to make the stitch.
Fasten off: Make one chain stitch, cut the yarn and then pull the short end tight, remove the ball from the finished piece.
Join with a ss: Make a slip knot on the hook, insert the hook into the stitch you want to join to and make a slip stitch. Carry the ends through the next few stitches on the wrong side.

AMIGURUMI LIGHTHOUSE
Tower:
Using White, make a magic ring.
Round 1: 6dc in magic ring. [6]
Round 2: Inc in next 6. [12]
Round 3: (Dc, inc) 6 times. [18]
Round 4: (Dc in next 2, inc) 6 times. [24]
Round 5: (Dc in next 3, inc) 6 times. [30]
Round 6: (Dc in next 4, inc) 6 times. [36]
Round 7: (Dc in next 5, inc) 6 times. [42]
Round 8: (Dc in next 6, inc) 6 times, turn. [48]
Round 9: Ch1, ss in each st around, turn.
Tip: Don’t make your slip stitches too tight.
Round 10: Ch1, dc in each ss around.
Rounds 11-18: Dc in each st around. After last round change colour to Red.
Cut a piece of cardboard to the same size as the base of the tower and put it inside the tower before you begin stuffing to make the base flat. Keep stuffing the tower as you work.
Round 19: Dc in each st around.
Round 20: (Dc in next 14, invdec) 3 times. [45]
Rounds 21-24: Dc in each st around.
Round 25: (Dc in next 6, invdec, dc in next 7) 3 times. [42]
Round 26: Dc in each st around. Change colour to White.
Rounds 27-29: Dc in each st around.
Round 30: (Dc in next 12, invdec) 3 times. [39]
Rounds 31-34: Dc in each st around. After last round change colour to Red.
Round 35: Dc in each st around. [39]
Round 36: (Dc in next 5, invdec, dc in next 6) 3 times. [36]
Rounds 37-42: Dc in each st around. After last round change colour to White.
Round 43: Working in front loops only, dc in each st around.
Round 44: Dc in each st around, ss in first st. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Round 45: Join Pastel Yellow with a ss to the first back loop from Round 43, dc in each st around. [36]
Rounds 46-52: Dc in each st around. After last round change colour to Light Blue.
Rounds 53-56: Dc in each st around. After last round fasten off leaving a long tail.
Base:
Working in the loops of Round 8 of the tower (the loops at the base of the tower), join Mouse Grey with a ss to the first st. Work in an anticlockwise direction so that the reverse side of the stitches will be on the outside.
Round 1: Dc in each st around, ss in first st. [48] Fasten off and weave in ends.
Roof:
Using Red, make a magic ring.
Round 1: 6dc in magic ring. [6]
Round 2: Inc in next 6. [12]
Round 3: Dc in each st around.
Round 4: (Dc, inc) 6 times. [18]
Round 5: (Dc in next 2, inc) 6 times. [24]
Round 6: Dc in each st around.
Round 7: (Dc in next 3, inc) 6 times. [30]
Round 8: (Dc in next 4, inc) 6 times. [36]
Round 9: Dc in each st around.
Round 10: Working in front loops only, (Dc in next 5, inc) 6 times. [42]
Round 11: Dc in each st around. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Sew the back loops of round 10 to the top of the tower. Stuff the top well before you close.
Door:
Using Mouse Grey, ch8.
Row 1: Beginning in the 2nd ch from the hook, dc in next 7, turn. [7]
Rows 2-5: Ch1, dc in next 7, turn.
Row 6: Ch1, dc2tog, dc in next 3, dc2tog, turn. [5]
Row 7: Ch1, dc2tog, dc, dc2tog. [3] Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Windows (Make 3):
Using Light Blue, ch5.
Row 1: Beginning in the 2nd ch from the hook, dc in next 4, turn. [4]
Rows 2-3: Ch1, dc in next 4, turn.
Row 4: Ch1, dc2tog 2 times. [2] Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Finishing:
Sew the windows and door to the tower. Using Mouse Grey yarn embroider crosses onto the windows and diagonal lines to make a grid on the lamp section at the top of the tower.
