This is a slightly different post from what you usually see on my blog, but I feel that as a community we can make a difference. I’m sure you’re all aware of the terrible bushfires which are currently affecting Australia. Human lives have been lost, homes have been distroyed and countless animals have been killed or injured.

A dear friend of mine is currently raising money for the heros fighting the fires after she and her family witnessed the devastation first hand while staying in a little coastal village called Manyana, NSW. Please follow the link below if you wish to donate to The Trustee for NSW Rural Fire Service & Brigades Donations Fund.

Update: this particular fundraiser has now ended and raised $6.500!

If this fundraiser doesn’t appeal to you, there are other ways you can help too. Here’s a great blog post with a lot of useful information and links to other organisations appealing for donations. This post also includes wildlife organisations who are looking for donations.

Crafters from around the world are pulling together in order to help injured wildlife and here’s where I think we can make the most impact. There is a Facebook page called Animal Rescue Craft Guild which have the most up to date information of where you can send items to help wildlife. Items needed the most include joey pouches, bat wraps, possum/bird boxes, bird/rodent nests & hanging pouches. There is also information on what yarn and patterns to use which is very important.

I have noticed that my Nesting Basket tutorial has been quite popular for making nests so I’ve linked it here for you. Please note that this is a previous brand collaboration. I will be adding an additional advert to the video to increase the earnings generated. This will be of no cost to you (only around 5 seconds of you time to wait for it to skip) however, all earnings from this particular video during this time will be donated to one of the organisations in need (or multiple depending on how much is raised) In order to be as transparent as possible, I will post the amount donated and donation details at the time of the donations.

UPDATE: In January 2020 £45 was donated to WWF for the ‘Koala Protector’ project.

The free patten can be found here. You can find another crochet nest pattern of the WIRES website here

UPDATE 12.01.2020: PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE SENDING ITEMS AS THERE ARE REPORTS THAT SOME ITEMS CANNOT BE USED DUE TO BEING THE WRONG TYPE OF YARN AND TO THE ORGANISATIONS BEING OVERWHELMED WITH TOO MANY ITEMS.

The Animal Rescue Collective on Facebook as also appealing for supplies so please take a look if you feel you cannot contrubute with crochet or craft items.

I really hope that you find this information useful. It will be updated as necessary. Please feel free to leave links or additional information in the comments.
