While it might not seem like the most natural beginner project, the right blanket pattern can actually be ideal for beginners. Often using repeating stitches for long stretches, they’re great to cement stitch knowledge in your head and build up muscle memory.

The beautiful Bon Chance blanket uses the simple double crochet (single crochet in the US) stitch, but introduces the art of colour changing to novice hookers. A handy technique to have under your belt, changing yarn colour may seem tricky at first, but it’s easy once you have the hang of it!

The Bright Side Blanket from the amazingly talented Toni at TL Yarn Crafts is also brilliant for beginners. With a few special stitches to learn, it’s definitely a great project to boost your knowledge but won’t be overwhelming for less confident hookers as the new stitches are mixed with classics to add a little familiarity.

The ripple stitch can often be confusing to beginner crocheters, knowing where to place your hook can often be difficult when getting started with this pattern. Joelle from Trek & Peri’s Newport Hand Towel isn’t just a beautiful pattern – it’s got really clear, photographs to walk you through the making process.

This stunning sunny cushion by Nihal of Topknotch Crochet is a super simple pattern. However, because of the thickness of the velvet yarn, it can be a little tricky to handle to begin with.

Both Nihal and Joelle have recently featured on Bella Coco as guest designers. You can see their patterns here, Anthropologie Inspired Long Pillow & The Malibu Pillow.

A crochet bunting string fashioned into bunny shapes is strung about a work desk with a laptop and bunch of daffodils sitting on it.

Speaking of guest designers, the super fun Bunny Bunting pattern by Lucy of Crafting by Lucy is one of Bella Coco’s most popular guest posts, and it’s easy to see why! This beautiful bunting isn’t just the perfect way to perk up your home, it’s also great for crochet beginners. Using just the double crochet stitch (placed in a slightly unconventional place!) this bunting is ideal for helping you get to grips with the shape and versatility of crochet stitches.

Into cute things? You’ll probably enjoy amigurumi! This sweet little 20 Minute Duck by StringyDingDing is the ideal starter project to learn the basics of amigurumi and create a cute little toy! Perfect for helping you get to grips with the shaping and stitches that are common for ami, it’s a great beginner crochet pattern to build up new skills.

Think crocheting clothes is just for pro hookers? Think again! There are some really cute clothing crochet patterns out there that are perfect to get your hook into, even as a beginner.

This sweet and Summery crochet crop top by For The Frills uses just simple stitches and is highly adaptable making it the perfect project to flex your crochet muscles with.

I love how simple and stylish this pattern is, not only that, it has a GREAT size range.

Looking for something different? How about a cool crochet hat that’s just PERFECT for Summer? Jess from Make and Do Crew really knocked it out of the park with her Fedora Crochet Sun Hat.
