I know how popular baby clothing is here on Bella Coco, so when guest designer Amy Nicholls from Tiny Toes Baby Boutique submitted her design for a cute crochet baby bolero I knew you were going to love it. Also, how could I resist using my baby girl, Everleigh to model such a beautiful design? This cute crochet cardigan is a fun project to work on, so it makes a wonderful project. Whether or not you can bear to gift it when it’s finished is another story altogether!
As this is a guest post, Bella Coco Crochet is unable to answer any queries. If you have a question, please contact the designer directly and they will be happy to help you.

Why not put together a small gift parcel for any 2022 babies? I have a number of baby crochet designs including baby beanies, baby booties and cute crochet loveys. You can browse my entire collection here: Baby Archive.

MATERIALS & TOOLS NEEDED
- Chenille yarn ( you can substitute this for a bulky weight yarn
- Darning needle
- Scissors
- Crochet hook (see size options below)
SIZES AND HOOKS NEEDED
- 1/2 years = 8mm hook
- 2/3 years = 9mm hook
- 3/4 years = 10mm hook
PATTERN NOTES
This bolero is crocheted in chenille yarn making it super soft to the touch, it has beautiful puff sleeve detailing and it’s cropped size is perfect for most seasons. This bolero is written in US terms.
This lucì bolero is worked in 5 separate pieces and then sewn together. Chain 1 at the beginning and end of the rows do NOT count as a stitch. A numbering front of the stitch means you work 2 stitches into that one stitch eg; 2hdc means you work 2 stitches into that stitch. Stitch count is at the end of each row in brackets. I’ve written this pattern so that the stitch count for all sizes are the exact same you simply need to change hook size eg; 8mm hook = 1/2 years, 9mm = 2/3 years.

CROCHET TERMS
Pattern is written in US terminology
- Sc = single crochet
- Hdc = half double crochet
- Sl St = slip stitch
- Yo = yarn over
- Dc2tog = double crochet 2 stitches together ( yo insert hook into stitch, yo pull through stitch 3 loops on the hook, yo insert hook Into next stitch, yo pull through stitch, 5 loops on hook,yo pull through 5 loops.
- Puff stitch = yarn over, insert Into stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops, repeat 5 times until you have 6 loops on your hook, then yarn over and pull through all 6 loops.
Unsure of the differences between UK and US terms? Need a refresher on how to do your stitches? In my ‘How to crochet: A handy reference guide’ EBook I help you with all of these terms and you can always have them to hand! You will also get exclusive access to free video instructions.
