It’s never too late to craft for Christmas.  Here’s a pattern and Youtube Tutorial for a Christmas Crochet Snowflake.  Perfect for your Christmas table decorations, present toppers or just as a pretty ornament on your tree.

Yarn: DK weight yarn

Hook: 4mm hook

Crochet Terms

Abbreviations: Pattern written in UK terms

Chain (ch): Yarn over, pull through one loop on hook

Treble Crochet (tc): Yarn over, insert hook into stitch or space, yarn over, draw up a loop (3 loops on hook), (yarn over, draw through 2 loops) twice.

Double Crochet (dc): Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull through two loops (2 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through both loops.

Slip Stitch (ss): Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull yarn through stitch and loop on hook

Snowflake Pattern

Start with a slip knot on hook.

Foundation chain: Ch 6, insert hook into first chain and slip stitch to form a circle.

Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as first tc here and throughout), tc in circle, [ch 2, 2 tc in circle] 5 times, ch 2, ss into third ch of beg ch-3. <6 clusters of 2 tc each>

Round 2: Ch 3, work (2 tc, ch 2, 2 tc) into each ch-2 space around omitting last treble in last space and ss to beg ch-3. <12 tr, 6 ch-2 spaces>

Round 3: *Ch 3, work 3 tc into next ch-2 space, ch 3, work ss into space between next 2 clusters of trebles (this is in the space where you did not ch 2 in the previous round); repeat from * around.  <6 clusters of 3 tr each>

Round 4: *Work 3 dc in next ch-3 space, (next stitches will be worked into the top of the three treble stitches) ss in first tc, ch 3, (ss, ch 4, ss) in second tc, ch 3, ss in third tc, work 3 dc in next ch-3 space; repeat from * around, ss in first dc, ch 1 and cut yarn leaving a tail.

Be sure to pull the tops of your snowflake at the corners to help it look like a snowflake. Use needle to weave in the end.
