Welcome to the Crochet Society Christmas Crochet Along AKA the Advent CALendar. This Christmas Crochet along is going to be so fun and I can’t wait to start seeing your projects build.
If this is your first time hearing about the crochet along or you need to refresh your memory on the details, you can find everything you need to know below.
Here’s a chance to grad a bit of crochet time on the lead up to Christmas (or wait until after, it’s totally up to you). Test your skills and learn something new with this Christmas Crochet Along!
Crochet Society Christmas Advent CALendar
The Calendar
First up, if you missed the CAL announcement on YouTube you can watch the video below. We opened up this calendar for pre order and it sold out pretty quickly! But don’t fear, if you didn’t manage to get your hands on the beautiful advent calendar itself, you can STILL join in the cal and I’ll share all the details in this post.
The project
This year we welcomed back Rosina Plane who has designed the project for the 2021 CAL and unsurprisingly, it’s STUNNING. I know a lot of you won’t want to see any spoilers, but if you simply cannot wait, you can take a look here. *WARNING YOU WILL SEE SPOILERS IF YOU CLICK THE LINK*
The Materials & Substitutes
To complete the blanket you will need 25 balls of DK Yarn. 23 different colours plus 2 balls of the same colour. In the Calendar we have 1 ball 100% acrylic DK yarn (33g each) in each drawer, only one colour is repeated.
Why not try Stylecraft Special DK or Paintbox Simply DK.
You can use fewer colours if you wish and use them on a repeat.
The pattern calls for a 4mm hook using the Bella Coco Crochet Confection DK. I would advise you start with this hook size and adapt if needed to your tension or to your chosen yarn if using and alternative.
The Pattern
The pattern for this CAL will all live on the Crochet Society website. I will be updating this blog post for you with the links that you will need. The pattern is free, however you will need to sign into the crochet society website in order to view the pattern. It is free to create an account on the crochet society website (There’s no need to take out a box subscription if you do not wish).
The pattern will go live at 08:00GMT each day.
The Videos
There is video assistance to help you through each day of the CAL. These videos will live on my YouTube channel OR instructions will be found on my channels community tab. All videos will be available in right handed and left handed versions. Closed captions are available on all the videos and can also be converted into other languages in the video settings (Click the CC button or the settings cog!).
You will also find these video embedded onto the Crochet Society blog post along with the pattern.
The videos will go live at 08:00GMT each day.
If you’re not confident in reading written patterns, read the pattern as you are watching the video and it will help you improve your skills!

Part of the fun of a crochet along is working alongside the community. Don’t forget to check out the Crochet Society Facebook Group. It’s full of like minded people who can help you along your crochet along and share your progress with.
Please remember, if you want to keep each day a surprise, it’s best to avoid the group until you have opened your advent.
