CROCHET CONVERSION CHART
When I first started crochet, I didn’t realise that there was a difference in UK terms and US terms. I mean, it seems a little silly that there are different names for the same things, right?! I remember when I posted my first crochet tutorial on the granny square and I was flooded with messages saying that I was doing Double Crochet and not Treble Crochet as I was saying in the video. I have to admit, my heart sunk a little when I thought I had made a HUGE mistake. But, I hadn’t (thank goodness!) Turns out- the people commenting were from the US- so there was just a little confusion which is completely understandable.
This is why in my videos, I make a real effort to explain the difference in terms and include this throughout the tutorials. After all, I have a huge number of people watching from the US and I am of course based in the UK.
So below is a chart showing the differences in terms as a reference guide which you may find useful!

I don’t have a tutorial on how to do this at the moment but it would be a case of very carefully pulling the yarn back until you have a long enough piece to thread through the loops of the loose stitches, before sewing in the end. You can avoid holes in granny squares by making sure all loose ends are sewn in nice and securely – make sure you always double back and weave the yarn in the opposite direction.

For the shell stitch pattern you just need to keep repeating rows 2 and 3 until the piece you are working on reaches the desired size, ending on row 3. If you wanted to then straighten the top, you would need to work stitches of different heights across; for example, by working a double crochet in the smaller spaces and a treble crochet in the bigger spaces.

US terms are by far the most commonly used so most other languages translate from these and not the UK terms. A good way to check is to see if a pattern contains the term ’single crochet’ as there is no such stitch using UK terms. Hope this helps
