Easy Baby Booties

A Baby Booties pattern is probably one of my top 5 requested tutorials EVER! So I thought it was time to get one done. One of the reasons that I haven’t done one before was because of the multiple sizes needed to fit different age babies BUT I discovered a very clever way of only needing one pattern.

You may or may not be familiar with the method of simply changing hook size in order to change the size of you bootie. It’s GENIUS I tell you. Now although I would love to give you set in stone instruction for what size hook you will need for what size booties, a certain amount of ‘figuring out’ will fall into your hands. The reason will be due to which yarn you choose to use and your personal tension. To give you a helping hand in figuring this out, here are the estimated measurements of the sole of the booties for the age of the baby.

Newborn – 3inches

up to 3 months – 3.5inches

6- 9 months – 4inches

9-12 months – 4.5inches

To give you a starting point I used Rico Baby Classic DK and a 3.5mm hook which measured 8cm (a little over 3 inches) So let’s assume that a Double knit yarn with a 3.5mm hook will be a good size for a Newborn.

You will need:

Your selected yarn | Rico Baby Classic DK

Scissors | Rose Gold Scissors

Darning needle | Pebble set

This pattern is written in UK terms

The building chain from the beginning of each round DOES NOT class as a stitch.

The first stitch in each round will be done in the base of the building chain.

Stitches used:

Chain (ch)

Slip Stitch (ss)

Double crochet (dc)

Half treble crochet (htr)

Repeat pattern from * to *

Double Crochet two together/ also know as double crochet decrease (dc2tog)

You can find the video instructions below the pattern

Foundation chain: Chain 10

Round 3: ch1, dc in next 10 stitches, *2dc in same stitch* twice, *2htr in the same stitch* five times, *2dc in same stitch* twice, dc in last 10 stitches, ss in first stitch to join.

Round 4: ch1, dc in the back loop of each stitch all the way around (39 stitches) ss to join

Change colours at this point if desired

Round 5: Repeat round 4

I love this pattern for booties, it’s so simple to follow for a beginner, and the possibilities of colours and embellishments is huge. Thank you so much for sharing your patterns
