The Herringbone stitch is a beautiful adaptation of the treble crochet (US Double crochet) that gives a great dense texture suitable for a range of projects. I love this stitch because it’s EASY yet gives a stunning result.

This pattern gives you the basic principles for the Herringbone stitch, designed to help you create your own projects.
Your chain 2 at the start of each row will count as a stitch

Crochet terms
ch – Chain
dc – Double Crochet
tr – Treble Crochet
*__* – Repeat indicated instructions
2Ctc – Two Crossed Treble crochet = Skip next stitch, 1tc into next stitch, 1tc into skipped stitch working over the previous tc.
Herringbone stitch (HBS): Yarn over, insert hook into stitch (3 loops on the hook) pull 1st loop though the 2nd loop on the hook. Yarn over and pull though 1 loop (2 loops on the hook) Yarn over and pull though both loops on the hook
Foundation chain: Multiples of 1 (this number will be the amount of stitches in your row) plus 1 for turning
Row 1: HBS into 3rd ch from the hook and into every ch.
Row 2: Chain 2 and turn, HBS into each stitch from the previous row
Repeat Row to until you get to your desired size and tie off.
