Loop Stitch

***Please note that I do say I am using a 4.5mm hook in the video, however it is a 4mm***

You’re going to be loopy for the stitch I’m sharing with you today…. The Loop Stitch.

Bad puns aside, this fun little stitch can be used in a variety of projects giving an unique and interesting texture and you can easily adapt it by making the loops as big or as small as you like. Perfect for adding texture to projects such as cushions and is fab for adding detail to amigurumi. It looks just like long fur!

You can also add more rows in between loops if you wish to make the effect a little more sparse.

It can be a bit tricky to master, but once you’ve got the hang of it, creating the long loops is super fun! I’ve included lots of photographs to help you learn. The best way to master this stitch is to follow both the video and the written pattern together.

Ready to loop the loop?

PATTERN NOTES

Written in UK terms.

Adapt your loop size by holding your tension finger in different positions. Closer to the work for a smaller loop and further away for a bigger loop.

Adapt the density of the stitches by either changing row 3 to a larger stitch e.g. instead of a double crochet, work a treble crochet row OR you could work 3 rows of double crochet.

CROCHET TERMS

Chain (ch): Yarn over, pull through one loop on hook

Double Crochet (dc): Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull through two loops (2 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through both loops.

Yarn over, pull through remaining loops. Remove finger from loop.

Yarn over, pull through remaining loops. Remove finger from loop.
