So here it is, the Spring Abstract Blanket (AKA Abstract blanket 2.0!) Are you ready?

This blanket is designed using the most beautiful soft pastel shades but unlike the first run of this blanket, it’s made using Aran weight yarn and has been redesigned giving you the perfect baby size blanket!

CROCHET ALONG DETAILS

This crochet-along launched on 16th July 2019 but if you’re joining in later then DON’T WORRY!. The pattern is available for FREE or you can download the low-cost Ad-free printable PDF via Love Crafts if you prefer to print our a copy.

Pattern level: Easy

Uses UK terminology.

The yarn used is Paintbox Simply Aran, you can find the colour bundle HERE

*Pack weight = 1000g (35.3oz), 1 ball weight = 100g (3.5oz)

The final size of the blanket will be 42 inches x 42 inches.

• 4.5 mm Crochet Hook or size needed to obtain gauge
• Scissors

CROCHET TERMS AND ABBREVIATIONS

Slip Stitch(s): ss(s): Insert hook, yarn over pull through stitch and loop on hook

Chain(s): ch(s): Yarn over, pull through

Double Crochet(s): dc(s): Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have two loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.

Reverse Double Crochet(s): rdc(s): Insert hook into previous stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have two loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.

Treble Crochet(s):tr(s): Yarn over, insert into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.

Front Post Treble(s): fpt(s): Yarn over, insert hook around post of stitch from front to back, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.

Back Post Treble(s): bpt(s): Yarn over, insert hook around post of stitch from back to front, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.

Front Post Double Treble(s): fpdtr(s): Yarn over hook twice, insert hook around post of stitch from front to back, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have four loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through two loops, you will have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.

PATTERN

Square 1 (solid granny square)

Please see below the pattern how many of each colour need to be made.

Foundation chain: ch 4, ss in 4th ch from the hook.

Round 1: ch 3 (counts as tr here and throughout), 2 tr in centre circle, *ch 3, 3 tr, repeat from * twice more, ch 3, join with ss in top of ch-3. <12 tr, 4 ch-3>

Round 2: ch 3, tr in next 2 sts, *(2 tr, ch 3, 2 tr) into corner space, tr to corner space, repeat from * twice more. (2 tr, ch 3, 2 tr) into corner space, join with ss in top of ch-3. <28 tr, 4 ch-3>

Round 3: ch 3, tr in next 4 sts, *(2 tr, ch 3, 2 tr) into corner space, tr to corner space, repeat from * twice more. (2 tr, ch 3, 2 tr) into corner space, tr to corner space, join with ss in top of ch-3. <44 tr, 4 ch-3>

Round 4: ch 3, 1 tr in next 6 sts, *(2 tr, ch 3, 2 tr) into corner space, tr to corner space, repeat from * twice more. (2 tr, ch 3, 2 tr) into corner space, tr in next 4 sts, join with ss in top of ch-3. <60 tr, 4 ch-3>

Square 2 (Waffle square)

Please use the chart to see how many of each colour need to be made.

Foundation chain: ch 4, ss in 4th ch from the hook.

Round 1: ch 3 (counts as tr here and throughout), 2 tr in centre circle, *ch 3, 3 tr, repeat from * twice more, ch 3, join with ss in top of ch-3. <12 tr, 4 ch-3>

Round 2:ss around the front post of tr, ch 3, fpdt around next 2 sts, *(2 tr, ch 3, 2 tr) in corner space, fpt around next 3 sts, repeat from * twice more. (2 tr, ch 3, 2 tr) in corner space, join with ss in top of ch-3. <16 tr, 12 fpt, 4 ch3>

Round 2: ch 3, skip next st, fpdtr in next, tr in skipped st working behind fpdtr, fpdt around same st as begin ch-3. *(2 tr, ch 3, 2 tr) in corner sp, skip 2 sts, fpdtr, tr in 2nd skipped st working behind fpdtr, fpdtr around 1st skipped st, repeat from * twice more. (2 tr, ch 3, tr) in corner sp. join with ss in top of ch-3. <8 fpdtr, 20 tr, 4 ch-3>

Round 3: ch 3, fpt, tr, fpt, 2 tr, *(2 tr, ch 3, 2 tr) in corner sp, across the next 7 stitches work 2 tr, fpt, tr, fpt, 2 tr, repeat from * twice more. (2 tr, ch 3, 2 tr) in corner sp, tr, join with ss in top of ch-3 <36 tr, 8 fpt, 4 ch 3>

JOINING SQUARES

Blocking squares is recommended before joining.

Squares are to be sewn together with wrong sides facing using whip stitch using Misty Grey.

Please see the diagram below which will indicate where to place your colours and which square to use. You can build this however you choose, whether it be in strips and or one by one.

BORDER

Round 1: dc in each stitch around (working 2 dc in corner sps of each individual square) ss in first st, fasten off and sew in ends.

Round 2: ch 2, rdc in each stitch around. ss in first stitch, fasten off and sew in ends.
