I’m so happy to bring you the SUNDOWN MARKET BAG! This is my first market bag design and I LOVE it! I’m one of those people who carrys around ‘everything but the kitchen sink’ so the fact that this bag can stretch to a substantial size as well as roll up small when it’s not being used is great! Not to mention cutting down on plastic carrier bags.
I actually crocheted a lot of this bag when we were off out on a day trip to ‘Sundown Adventure Land’ which is why I chose to call it the Sundown Market Bag. A nice little reminder of our day out.
The Yarn
For this project, I have used Paintbox Cotton Aran because it’s hard-wearing, keeps its shape and it’s easy to wash! I picked myself up the 5 ball pack which was the perfect amount for this bag. It’s been one of my top yarns this year and I’ve found myself reaching for it for multiple projects, my Summer Breeze cushion being one of them. I went Blush Pink (654) because, well, it’s one of my favourites! Paintbox Cotton Aran currently available in a 5 pack which is perfect for this project.

July 1, 2020 at 3:17 pmIt is the part after row 58, it jumps straight to the handles. The written pattern is missing the pattern for the stitches around the side of the bag that is shown in the video. 🙂

July 2, 2020 at 8:00 amHi Jessica I’m not sure what your query is as their are no sides to the bag? Can you let me know exactly what it is you think is missing as we have checked the pattern and it all seems to be correct 🙂

March 3, 2021 at 2:37 pmI am struggling with doing the sides. Do I knot one side off to start the other? How do I go from one side to the other side?
BellaCocoTeam
March 5, 2021 at 8:05 pmHi Lauren When you are working the edges you should tie off your yarn once you have completed the first side and then attach it ready to begin the other side. I like to tie my yarn on and then secure it by pulling it through and making a slip stitch

July 4, 2021 at 8:37 amWhat is the approximate, if not definite measurements, of one side of the bag in inches? I feel that mind is a bit short so far since I used a hook that’s a size smaller than the yarn recommended.

July 5, 2021 at 6:16 pmHi Cammie
If you pop over to my blog you can find more details on the bag including gauge: https://bellacocoblog.frogspark.agency/sundown-market-bag-free-pattern/ You need to work seven stitches and eight rows over a 5cm x 5cm swatch to match the sizing

January 14, 2022 at 6:40 pmThis has been on my list a long time of crochet adventures and I did it! I made it with the new rainbow yarn doughnuts that they sell and looks fun. Mine is just smaller because I apparently crochet in miniature. Maybe it’s hand size or tension lol. It was super approachable when I did it even though at first seemed really intimidating. Thanks!!!
