Welcome to part five of the Sunburst Crochet Along. Can you believe we’re in week 5 already!? Today marks the last of the video tutorials for the #bellacocoCAL. However, the actual CAL will run until the end of June. So, don’t worry if you’re not ready to end yet! This crochet along is about taking things at your own pace, enjoying the process and getting involved with the crochet community, not about stressful deadlines or goals. So, enjoy yourself! Without further ado, let’s get into today’s tutorial. I’m going to be showing you how to add a Moss Stitch border to your blanket.
Before we get started, make sure you’ve followed along with Week Three’s blog post: Preparing Your Crochet For A Border. This should make the next tutorial easy as pie!

WHAT’S A CAL?
A CAL or crochet along is where a group of people work on a large pattern or series of smaller patterns together. The pattern is released in segments, one video and blog post weekly, and there’s a space to chat about your progress, get help and generally enjoy the community feel of a group crochet project.
In the Sunburst Blanket Crochet Along the communal space will be the Cosy Club in the Bella Coco Crochet Club Facebook group. This happens at 12pm (UK time) on a Tuesday. Everyone is free to join in and crochet and chat with us.
As I’m currently looking after a tiny baby, Louise and Nicola from Team Bella Coco will be looking after you all and making sure you’re comfortable and enjoying the CAL.

WHAT ARE THE DETAILS?
The Sunburst Blanket Crochet Along will be running from May 8th-30th June. It’s a very casual affair – while the videos will be uploaded weekly, there’s no limit or pressure on how much, or how little, you manage each week. It’s all about feeling calm after all!
There will be weekly check-ins every Tuesdays at 12pm (UK time) on the Cosy Club post at Bella Coco Crochet Facebook group. I’d love to see your progress shots as well as chat about your week and the pattern together.
PART FIVE: MOSS STITCH BORDER
MATERIALS & TOOLS
Yarn: Aran/Worsted weight yarn in four different colours. The amount you need will vary on your personal gauge and the size of the blanket you are making.
In the Sunburst Blanket Crochet Along videos I used: Caron Simply Soft in Orchid, Soft Green, Light Country Peach and Off White.
These stitch samples were made in bright colours so that you can see the different stitches. When made using similar colours they will not be this visible. I just wanted you to be able to see clearly!
The beautiful blanket that you can see in the photographs used in this blog was made by my amazing test crocheter Emma and uses Stylecraft Aran in Wisteria, Duck Egg, Pale Rose and Cream.

PATTERN NOTES
Written in UK terms
Start with the foundation border
This border is worked in an odd number of stitches across each edge. When building your foundation border, bear this in mind: you can adjust your number of stitches if needed by adding two stitches in one space
MOSS STITCH BORDER

When working your first stitch of the round, you can either chain 1 (does not count as st) and dc in same space OR work a standing double crochet
Round 1: Attach yarn in any corner space. Ch 1 (does not count as st) dc in same corner space. Ch 1, miss a st, *dc in next st, ch 1, miss a st; repeat from * to next corner space. **(dc, ch 2, dc) in corner sp. Ch 1, *dc in next st, ch1; repeat from * to corner space. Repeat from ** twice more. Dc, ch 2 in corner sp. Join to first dc with ss.
Round 2: Ch 1, dc in same corner sp. Ch 1, miss a st, *dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, miss a st; repeat from * to next corner space. **(dc, ch 2, dc) in corner sp. Ch 1, *dc in next ch-1 sp, ch1; repeat from * to corner space. Repeat from ** twice more. Dc, ch 2 in corner sp. Join to first dc with ss.
Repeat round 2 until you reach your desired depth of border.
You can change your colour as you please. You will produce a different effect with 1, 2 or 3 rounds of each colour, so have a play around with it and see that you think!

FOR THE LOVE OF MOSS STITCH
It’s no secret at this point that I absolutely ADORE Moss Stitch in all of its shapes and forms. There’s just so comforting about the process for me. I love the relaxing rhythm, the soft and squishy fabric and just how pretty it looks when crocheted. Do I need more reasons?
